This is the fire directly east of the cemetery abutting Downsview Secondary School. Had to skirt the police and jump over the fence to get there and got within 30 meters of the flames. In the other video it is possible to make out the profile of come unexploded oil barrel shaped barrels.
This restaurant on the pedestrian only street was typical of the 15 oe so they had. Fairly typical of other city's except for that one miving thing you can see.
Some small streets in Shanghai that made me think of Toronto and how the China town there really isquite authentic. Of course there is less attention paid to sanitation and a lot of things I didn't see in Toronto but a lot o fthings that seemed familiar too.
There was no electricity so we ended up eating by candle light. I did actually help and have done it quite a few times since though still never rolled the dough.
If you think climbing 4000+ feet will get you some reprieve from the hordes in China you are sadly mistaken. The early bits there were fewer people but at this point three paths had converged so it was slowing going at that point.
One huge solid piece of rock moved a few hundred years ago from over 50 miles away. A few theories about how they did it including digging wells and using ice in winter.
It is literally translated as "small eat street" (or snack street). Actually a whole bunch of streets but pretty touristy. Had lots of interesting entertainment including this which is supposed to be like Beijing opera.
Took a bus for about 15 mins to get to the foot of the hill then walked up. Mostly fields as at the edge of the city. Behind all the hills there are just trees and farms. Along the ridges of the hills there are beaten paths to follow which I've never found an end too.
This is inside the compound where the government that fled to Taiwan used to meet. The room at the end is actually a smaller meeting room beside the State Conference room.
China calls itself the bicycle kingdom and with good reason. Even in icy conditions and -15 temps in Manzhouli people were riding bikes (motor and pedal). Even Shanghai had a lot.
Had to pass through this crevass as there was no other way around. It was about 20 meters long and I couldn't have gone through narrowest part with my bag on.
A famous garden in Suzhou. The compound is many times the size of what you see in the picture and I guess is very nice in the summer. Most of these gardens were just built by rich people for themselves.
I'm not sure why but outside the train station they were playing "Hotel California" on a continuous loop as far as I could tell. It kept stop and restarting and I was there on three different days coming arriving, buying a ticket and departing. Kind of funny.
