watched this on Fri. bought OHP on Sat 185 USD. Came home and ripped off my 14" lCD monitor. discarded the original lcd screen lamp. re attached the data cable to the LCD screen from the CPU. I placed the LCD 1 cm high on the OHP top. covered up the open electrical connections and switched it on. WOW. last night I attached 8 w speakers. and watched SPARTACUS 9. (whore) once again . No Sir. it was better than many MM Projectors.

@dantheman012008 the back-light on the lcd is not nearly bright enough to satisfy a 70"+ screen, even in a completely dark room it would be barely visible, to get a really good quality screen i would recommend at least 1000 lumen, mine is 4000

Only a couple of things to say and that is , " Do you really need all the lighting that is built into the projector , as a screen has a self luminating screen " and " Does the projector need to be switched on in the first place , mirrors and lenses are all you should need .( Helping you to scale down your design ) Could be a money maker if you panel off behind the projector from sunlight after scaling it down , or even maybe a case ,just a thought . . . Otherwise Brilliant Idea . . .

That was pretty cool. I can see a 14 inch LCD Monitor fitting nicely on the overhead projector and making the whole thing permanent. Nice work! Bravo!

@theignition21 Um, You put it in the DVD reader in the PC that LCD was connected to. The Big clue came when he was taking apart the LCD Monitor to get the LCD panel & controller out.... Duh. Did you not understand what he was doing when he was disassembling the LCD Monitor? If you didn't, maybe you shouldn't attempt this.
By: theignition21. on 21 Aug 10, 19:43:07
Um, how do you play the dvd?
By: wastedspace2169. on 18 Aug 10, 19:05:27
oh yeah and the screen is 6ft by 5 ft. and the bulbs cost 5 bucks with an average of 75 hour lifetime. i do plan on building a regular box the goal of this projector was just to see what the cheapest it could be done for. i spent 110

i did end up using an lcd tv the dissasembly was supprisingly easy plus it has vga connect hdmi. overhead projector i got is 4000 lumens which i got off of ebay ffor 60 bucks (free shipping) the tv was 50 bucks (ebay) i'd give the video quality threw the vga a 6.5 but when i hook up my xbox360 and switch it to 1080i i'd give it a 8.0 it does help to have a pure white screen the wall sucks. mostly just did the test run still have to mount everything. so far i am pretty happy with it.

its wasteful, reason being that the projector is needed plus its has to be a VERY DARK ROOM!! so really kind of lame. but good idea projector would only make the room hotter

Dude....kudos, that rocked. Any time you can turn inexpensive into something useful it's a win for the little guys.
By: irockwithbillgates. on 08 Aug 10, 04:14:59
would you suggest using a normal flat panel monitor versus a wide screen flat panel?
By: TheFrogination. on 04 Aug 10, 20:22:22
@Hvr2Hvr jeahr you have to build al litttle gap between the projektor and the LCD for the cooling fan ;)

@wastedspace2169 There is no reason why you cant use an LCD TV. The only downside to this is most smaller LCD TV's have lower specs and its very noticable when watching the projection. This was the reason why I decided to go with an LCD monitor (havent built the pj yet still wating on my lens kit)

@wastedspace2169 whats the website called?
By: wastedspace2169. on 18 Jul 10, 18:48:49
there is a little more to building it then this but not much. the picture does not come out backwards because the screen is flipped. if you go to there website it has step by step instructions on how to build this. in one of the pictures towards the end they are viewing there website on the projector and the lettering isn't backwards which is how i know nothing is reversed. i was actually wondering if you could use a lcd tv instead of a computer monitor.

@JOKERtheSIC That's not even a complete sentence
By: Hvr2Hvr. on 14 Jul 10, 03:01:05
is he just laying the screen on the projector or is there more to it?
By: JOKERtheSIC. on 01 Jul 10, 20:47:38
this video is 4 dumb chode
By: Lyokoking99. on 26 Jun 10, 23:00:07
@awayfromgod eBay may work, but when I find them cheap they're usually at a second-hand shop.
By: Lyokoking99. on 26 Jun 10, 08:48:48
@awayfromgod It actually can be. Overhead projectors can often be found used for $10-15, and you can likely find an LCD screen like that for $50 at Goodwill or something. Or, you can pay $300+ for a Commercial LCD Projector.

@CONT4M1NAT3D still looks the same though just titles and stuff would be back wards and all you have to do its take a white sheet and putt the the projector of the other side of the screen so its not on the same side as you and presto its normal again
By: benjabean1. on 19 Jun 10, 05:22:00
@bben95 I assume it would. The crystal is still on top of the overhead, it just needs the light from below. A normal LCD screen has a polarized crystal screen on top of a light. Fluorescent, I believe...? If you were to replace the light in the overhead with a fluorescent light, it would work. LCDs are basically just projectors anyway, he's just redirecting the light.
